July 14, 2026 - GTU Office of Press and Public Relations — Gebze Technical University (GTU) is participating in the 6th National Arctic Scientific Research Expedition (TASE-VI), organized under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye and coordinated by the TÜBİTAK Polar Research Institute (KARE). — Research Assistant Emre Bozdoğan from the Department of Geomatics Engineering is representing GTU by conducting field research off the coast of Svalbard at approximately 82° North latitude.
Gebze Technical University (GTU) is taking part in the scientific activities of the 6th National Arctic Scientific Research Expedition (TASE-VI), organized under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye, under the responsibility of the Ministry of Industry and Technology, and coordinated by the TÜBİTAK Polar Research Institute (KARE). Research Assistant Emre Bozdoğan from the Department of Geomatics Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering is participating in field research conducted off the coast of Svalbard at approximately 82° North latitude, where he is carrying out technical measurements for the project.
Field Measurements for a TÜBİTAK KUTUP 1001 Project During the expedition, data are being collected for the TÜBİTAK KUTUP 1001 Project (No. 125G044), led by Assoc. Prof. Mert Bezcioğlu, a PhD graduate of GTU's Department of Geomatics Engineering and a faculty member in the Department of Geomatics Engineering at Istanbul Technical University. The project, titled "Performance Analysis of RT-PPP and PPP-RTK Techniques Based on Low-Cost GNSS Observations Under Arctic Conditions and the Development of a Kin-VA-Based Hybrid Model and Software for Continuous Real-Time Positioning," aims to evaluate the performance of low-cost GNSS receivers under the Arctic's challenging environmental conditions while validating the accuracy of the newly developed model through field testing.
Inter-Institutional Scientific Collaboration The project is being carried out through the collaboration of several academic institutions. From GTU, Prof. Cemal Özer Yiğit and Research Assistant Emre Bozdoğan are serving as researchers on the project. The research team also includes Prof. Reha Metin Alkan, Prof. Serdar Erol, and Research Assistant Bilal Mutlu from İstanbul Technical University, as well as Assoc. Prof. Berkay Bahadur from Hacettepe University. |
