May 21, 2026 - GTU Office of Press and Public Relations — The GTU Turkish Classical Music Choir commemorated the legendary “Sun of Art” of Turkish classical music, Zeki Müren, through his timeless songs at its 5th annual traditional concert. — Vice-Rector Prof. Mahmut Durmuş emphasized that academics and students contribute to the university not only through scientific studies but also through social and artistic events that have become an institutional tradition. — The choir, conducted by TRT Istanbul Radio vocal artist and conductor Seda Gökkadar, was accompanied by renowned Turkish classical music performer Gökhan Sezen as the guest artist. — Held under the slogan “Spread Your Wings to the Arts” with the main sponsorship of seramiksir.com, the free public event attracted significant interest from art enthusiasts.
The GTU Turkish Classical Music Choir of once again hosted a distinguished night of art in line with the university’s mission of contributing not only to academic prestige but also to cultural and social life. Held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at the GTU Congress and Cultural Center, the concert titled “A Story of the Heart: Songs of Zeki Müren” brought together numerous art lovers.
“We Add Value to Our University Through Social and Artistic Activities” Speaking at the opening of the event, GTU Vice-Rector Prof. Mahmut Durmuş thanked all guests for their participation and emphasized the importance the university places on cultural activities. Stating that academics and students contribute to the university not only through scientific studies but also through social and artistic events, Prof. Durmuş noted that Turkish classical music concerts have now become an institutional tradition. Expressing his wish for such events to continue expanding, Durmuş concluded his speech by congratulating the choir members and academics who devotedly dedicated time to rehearsals despite their busy schedules.
Different Units Became “One Breath” Assoc. Prof. Zeynep Soyer Sarıca, President of the Turkish Classical Music Choir, stated in her speech that members from different units of the university came together under the umbrella of Turkish music. Sharing the experience of different voices uniting as one heart and one breath, Assoc. Prof. Sarıca said:
“We came together from different units of our university under the roof of Turkish music. We experienced how different voices can come together as one heart and one breath. Tonight, we will not only sing songs here; we will commemorate an extraordinary legacy filled with elegance and profound grace. I would like to extend my gratitude to the university administration, our conductor, our guest artist, our main sponsor seramiksir.com, and all of you, our valued audience members, who have supported us since the establishment of our choir. Welcome to this very special evening organized for the fifth time by the Turkish Classical Music Choir, ‘A Story of the Heart’ written through the immortal songs of our Sun of Art, Zeki Müren.”
A Strong Collaboration That Spreads Its Wings to the Arts Performing under the direction of TRT Istanbul Radio vocal artist and choir conductor Seda Gökkadar, the choir successfully performed Zeki Müren’s unforgettable works, taking the audience on a nostalgic musical journey. The guest artist of the evening, Gökhan Sezen, also provided unforgettable moments for the audience through his solo performances and songs accompanied by the choir.
