May 8, 2026 - GTU Office of Press and Public Relations - GTU shared its experience in managing European Union project processes and innovative academic collaboration models at the conference held in Kocaeli. - Drawing attention with its International Projects Office and ongoing EU-funded projects, GTU contributes to the city’s global goals through its vision for green transformation and digitalization.
Gebze Technical University (GTU) took part in the “Conference on Local Opportunities for a Green Future and Digital Transformation,” hosted by the Kocaeli Governorate and Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality under the coordination of the Directorate for EU Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the conference, GTU Vice-Rector Prof. Elif Damla Arısan participated as a speaker and shared GTU’s experiences in benefiting from European Union funds, project development processes, and best practice examples.
At the conference organized under the coordination of the Directorate for EU Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and hosted by the Kocaeli Governorate and Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, Gebze Technical University (GTU) played an active role. In her session, GTU Vice-Rector Prof. Elif Damla Arısan discussed the university’s experience in the management and implementation of European Union projects.
Prof. Arısan emphasized the strategic importance of GTU's International Relations Coordination Office and its International Projects Office, which were established to minimize the challenges faced by academics during project processes. She also highlighted that collaborations carried out with regional universities and stakeholders in Istanbul have strengthened the university’s capacity to access international funding opportunities.
Innovative Projects Introduced at the GTU Booth The GTU booth, set up throughout the conference, attracted significant attention from participants. The booth showcased several ongoing university projects, including STURNET, TWINBAT, and COVER. Detailed presentations of these EU-funded projects were provided. Visitors were also able to access technical information regarding a total of 17 projects conducted within the university through QR codes.
Academic Contribution to Kocaeli’s Global Roadmap Honored by the participation of Governor İlhami Aktaş, the conference aimed to enhance the city’s global competitiveness through the collective efforts of local stakeholders. Through its best practice examples focusing on the European Green Deal and digital transformation, GTU continues to provide academic leadership in supporting Kocaeli’s more effective use of EU funding mechanisms.
