The first Turkish astronaut, Alper Gezeravcı, visited Gebze Technical University (GTU) and shared his space mission experiences with students. Having carried out Türkiye’s first human spaceflight mission, Gezeravcı delivered a presentation to students at the GTU Congress Center, conveying his experiences within an academic setting.
Official Welcome by the Vice-Rectors Prior to the event, Gezeravcı was received by GTU Vice-Rectors Prof. Elif Damla Arısan, Prof. Mahmut Durmuş, and Prof. Hasari Çelebi, who briefed him on the university’s scientific infrastructure and ongoing research activities. Following the reception, Gezeravcı proceeded to the Congress Center, where he delivered a comprehensive presentation covering Türkiye’s space vision and his work aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
A Space Vision for Future Scientists During the talk, which attracted significant student interest, Gezeravcı emphasized the pride of being part of the National Technology Initiative and stated: “It is truly valuable to be here with young people who will build Türkiye’s technological future. Space is not a destination, but a new beginning.”
At the end of the event, Gezeravcı answered students’ questions on technical details they were curious about, and a commemorative gift was presented to him by the university administration. |
