The CytoCyst team, operating under the GTU Cytogate Biotechnology Research Society, achieves remarkable success by winning the silver medal at GOGEC 2026 with their innovative project focused on the treatment of endometriosis, commonly known as “chocolate cyst.”

Composed of students from Gebze Technical University (GTU), the CytoCyst team demonstrated outstanding performance at the Global Open Genetic Engineering Competition (GOGEC) 2026, one of the most prestigious international events in the field of biotechnology. Competing among projects in genetic engineering and biotechnology, the team received the silver medal.

International Success Driven by an Innovative Therapeutic Approach

Under the supervision of Agit Çetinkaya, the CytoCyst team focused on endometriosis, a condition widely known as “chocolate cyst,” which affects millions of women worldwide. For this disease, currently lacking a definitive cure and typically managed through symptom-relief methods, the team developed a targeted and natural therapeutic approach.

This original study received full recognition from the jury for its vision of transforming the course of the disease and improving patients’ quality of life.
