February 25, 2026 - GTU Office of Press and Public Relations Students from the Department of City and Regional Planning at Gebze Technical University (GTU), present the projects they have developed within the scope of the “Çeşme – Meeting With Local Government” event to officials from Çeşme Municipality. The event marks an important exchange of vision in terms of university–local government collaboration.
The program, held at the GTU Congress Center on Monday, February 16, 2026, showcased the studies carried out throughout the 2024–2025 Academic Year within the framework of the ŞBP 301 and ŞBP 302 courses. The event was attended by GTU Vice-Rector Prof. Hasari Çelebi; Prof. Elif Özlem Aydın, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture; Oktay Kargül, General Manager of the Istanbul Planning Agency (IPA); and Prof. Ayşe Sema Kubat, retired faculty member of ITU Faculty of Architecture.
Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar Visits the ExhibitionFollowing the opening remarks by Asst. Prof. Zeynep Deniz Yaman-Galantini, selected student projects were presented as part of the program. Representatives from the Çeşme Municipality Vision Office, Didem Kara-Bozkurt, Merve Çağlak, and Ece Nur İleri, contributed to the event with their evaluations. The exhibition area displaying the projects attracted significant interest from participants. GTU Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar visited the exhibition, received detailed information from the students, and was presented with a booklet containing comprehensive details of the projects.
Sustainable Urbanism and a Vision for the FuturePrepared with a focus on urban planning and sustainable urbanism, the projects enabled dynamic knowledge exchange among the academic team, students, and municipal officials. The students’ creative solutions were regarded as a valuable step toward strengthening strategic collaborations with local governments.
Following the event, a closed meeting was held between Asst. Prof. Lecturer Zeynep Deniz Yaman-Galantini, Asst. Prof. Yaşasın Eryılmaz, Duygu Kanık (PhD), research assistants Gökçen Özalp, Kardelen Öztürk, Elif Bengi Güneş-Yerlikaya, Yiğit Can Yavuz, and representatives of Çeşme Municipality. During the meeting, potential areas of cooperation between the university and the municipality were discussed in detail. |
