The scientific research project titled “Smooth Cubic Surfaces Over Non-Algebraically Closed Fields,” led by Assoc. Prof. Fatma Karaoğlu-Ceyhan, a faculty member at Gebze Technical University (GTU), is awarded funding under the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK) Directorate of Research Support Programs (ARDEB) 3501 Career Development Program.

The project, to be conducted in the field of algebraic geometry, aims to examine the structural properties of smooth cubic surfaces defined over non-algebraically closed fields and to classify them according to their isomorphisms. In addition to the classical case of 27 lines frequently addressed in the literature, the project will investigate in detail the geometric and combinatorial structures of smooth cubic surfaces containing fewer lines. The findings are expected to make significant contributions to the international scientific literature.

The project will run for 24 months and will employ both theoretical methods and computer-aided algebra systems. The research team consists of the principal investigator, an international researcher, and master’s and doctoral scholarship holders. The results obtained throughout the study are planned to be disseminated through academic publications and scientific conferences.

This important project also aims to strengthen the university’s research capacity in the fields of mathematics and fundamental sciences, enhance its international visibility, and contribute to the training of qualified researchers.
