Launched under the National Competency Initiative, the “Project Management Program” commences at the GTU Institute of Nanotechnology with the aim of strengthening the methodological infrastructure of the defense industry and systematizing strategic competencies.

Academic and Industry Collaboration

The “Project Management Program,” designed in collaboration between Gebze Technical University (GTU) and the Defense Industry Academy (SSA), has officially begun. The event, hosted by the GTU Institute of Nanotechnology, was attended by GTU Vice-Rectors Prof. Hasari Çelebi and Prof. Mahmut Durmuş, as well as Prof. Cenk Aktaş, President of the Defense Industry Academy.

A Two-Phase Strategic Approach to Training

For the first phase of the collaboration, a six-week training program has been launched for experts and academics who manage the university’s national and international projects. The first lecture of the program was delivered by M. Vefa Arıkan, Training Director at HEAŞ (Airport Management and Aeronautical Industries Inc.). Simultaneously, an elective course titled “Project Management” has been incorporated into the undergraduate curriculum.

Future Vision: Specialization and Master’s Program

In the second phase, the establishment of a “Master’s Program in Project Management” is planned. This advanced program will cover critical topics such as risk analysis, Earned Value Management (EVM), Agile/Scrum methodologies, portfolio and contract management, as well as digital tools and AI-supported project management practices.

The growing production capacity and increasing export volume in the defense industry necessitate a strong methodological foundation. Through this training initiative, GTU aims not only to train professionals who manage projects, but also to systematically develop competencies that strategically guide them, thereby continuing to contribute academically to Türkiye’s defense vision.
