February 11, 2026 - GTU Office of Press and Public Relations Gebze Technical University (GTU) contributes to Türkiye’s technology transfer ecosystem by bringing together in-house developed technologies from its laboratories with industry. Organized under the slogan "Where Knowledge Turns Into Products and Ideas Into Value", the Patent Commercialization Launch Event gathers representatives of academia and industry.
The ceremony was attended by Prof. Muhammed Zeki Durak, President of the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office, GTU Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar, GTU Vice-Rectors Prof. Elif Damla Arısan and Prof. Hasari Çelebi, as well as numerous academics, sector representatives, and students.
Rector Mantar: A Patent Cannot Be Considered To Have Completed Its Mission Unless It Reaches IndustryIn his opening speech, GTU Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar emphasized the university’s research-oriented identity and underlined the importance of patent commercialization. He stated that obtaining a patent for an invention is a major achievement; however, unless that invention reaches industry and transforms into a mechanism in a factory, a remedy in a hospital, or comfort in an office, it cannot be regarded as having fulfilled its mission. He further noted that GTU is not merely a university that publishes academic articles, but an institution fully integrated with industry. Highlighting that university–industry collaboration is no longer a mere aspiration but a living ecosystem, Rector Mantar conveyed that GTU’s doors are always open to industrial partners.
Prof. Muhammed Zeki Durak delivered a comprehensive presentation titled "Industrial Property and Academic Life", emphasizing the importance of patent processes within academia.
Four Major Licensing Agreements SignedAt the most significant stage of the launch event, official agreements were signed for the commercialization of strategic patents developed at GTU:
Functional Office Chair: The invention by Lecturer Ramazan Aybey from the Department of Physical Education and Sports was licensed to Seçkin Büro Mobilyaları. Biological Control: The invention titled "Recombinant Bacillus thuringiensis for Killing Mosquito Larvae and Its Method", developed by Prof. Sedef Tunca-Gedik from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, was transferred to Doğa İlaç. Energy Technologies: Two major inventions by Mahmut Akşit, PhD, from the Department of Physics, titled "Textured Film and Production Method Thereof and A Rotary Mechanism with Periodic Reverse Motion", were licensed under EMARLAB Energy.
Following the signing ceremony, plaques were presented to the inventors and company representatives by GTU Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar and Prof. Muhammed Zeki Durak. The plaques were presented to Şükrü Serbest on behalf of Seçkin Büro Mobilyaları, Hacı Osman Dalkürek on behalf of Doğa İlaç, and Mahmut Akşit, PhD, on behalf of EMARLAB Energy.
