February 4, 2026 - GTU Office of Press and Public Relations Gebze Technical University (GTU) takes its place as one of the key stakeholders in the SENSOR HUB (R&D&I and Networking Platform for Utilisation of Sensor Technologies) project, which brings together the technology ecosystem and aims to shape Türkiye’s digital future. Supported under the European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIH) call launched by the European Commission, the project will provide academic and technical guidance to support the digitalization processes of industry and public institutions.
The project is coordinated by SUNUM–Sabancı University Nanotechnology Research and Application Center and is carried out in collaboration with strong partners such as TÜBİTAK MAM, METU MEMS, Bilkent UNAM, ETGB ATAP, BC Partnering, and Arçelik. GTU contributes to the project with the highest level of expertise of its Faculty of Engineering. The project at GTU is led by Prof. Yusuf Sinan Akgül, a faculty member of the Department of Computer Engineering and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Gebze Technical University.
A “One-Stop-Shop” Era in Digitalization Planned to run for 36 months, the SENSOR HUB project adopts a “one-stop-shop” model to accelerate the digital transformation of SMEs, start-ups, and public institutions across Türkiye. With GTU’s technical support, stakeholders will have access to the following critical services:
Digital Maturity Analysis and Testing Processes: The digital maturity levels of organizations will be assessed, and opportunities for testing and demonstrating new technologies will be provided. Advanced Digital Skills: In-depth training programs will be offered in the fields of artificial intelligence and sensor technologies. Financing and Business Matchmaking: Support will be provided to facilitate access to investment opportunities, along with networking activities within the ecosystem.
Sector-Specific Solutions and a Vision for Sustainability GTU’s expertise in artificial intelligence and sensor technologies will be translated into practical applications in areas such as healthcare, biomedical monitoring, food safety, environmental monitoring, and remote sensing. The solutions developed will be enhanced with AI-based data analytics and predictive maintenance systems, increasing efficiency in production processes.
Beyond strengthening technological capacity, SENSOR HUB directly contributes to the objectives of the European Green Deal and the European Digital Decade, positioning GTU as a leading institution in the establishment of a sustainable digital innovation network. |
