The project led by Assoc. Prof. İdris Karakaya, a faculty member of the Faculty of Science, which aims to provide a scientific foundation for drug development processes, is approved for support under the TÜBİTAK 1002-A Rapid Support Module.

Gebze Technical University (GTU) continues to contribute to the scientific community through its research-oriented academic activities. Support has been granted under the TÜBİTAK 1002-A Rapid Support Module for the study titled “Synthesis of NSAID-Based Azooxy Compounds and Investigation of Their Biological Activities via a Molecular Docking Approach,” conducted under the principal investigation of Assoc. Prof. İdris Karakaya, a faculty member of the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science.

An Innovative Approach to Drug Development

Within the scope of the project, it is planned to synthesize novel molecules containing an azooxy functional group, derived from non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) derivatives that are widely used in the medical field. The interactions of the compounds obtained during the research process with potential biological targets will be examined in detail using modern molecular docking techniques. Through this approach, the biological activity potential of the molecules will be evaluated with academic rigor based on their binding properties.

Integrating Synthesis and Modeling Techniques

This interdisciplinary study, which brings together organic synthesis methods and computer-aided molecular modeling techniques, aims to introduce new candidate compounds to the scientific literature. The ultimate objective of the project is to provide a strong scientific foundation for modern drug discovery processes and to make a qualified contribution to the literature in the fields of medicine and chemistry.
