GTU 2026 Academic Council: A Research- and Student-Oriented Vision for the Future

At the Academic Council Meeting, where Gebze Technical University’s (GTU) roadmap for 2026 is outlined, Vice-Rector Prof. Elif Damla Arısan shares student-centered projects and global achievements that strengthen the university’s identity as a “research university.”

 

Future Strategic Goals Defined

The GTU 2026 Academic Council Meeting was held on January 22, 2026, at the GTU Congress and Cultural Center. Chaired by GTU Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar, the meeting was attended by vice-rectors, the secretary general, deans, department heads, and academic staff. The meeting comprehensively addressed the university’s academic performance in recent years, infrastructure transformations, and strategic goals for 2026.

 

Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar: “Every Student Must Graduate With a Project”

In his opening remarks, Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar emphasized that the university is an R&D ecosystem and highlighted the importance of student socities and teams at the deanship level. Addressing the academic staff, he stated: “None of our students must graduate without being involved in a project. Our success lies in the attention we give to our students and in the contribution each of our faculty members makes to the research ecosystem.” Prof. Mantar also announced that accreditation processes for all departments would be completed in the near future and that the campus would be transformed into a green campus generating its own electricity through a Solar Power Plant (SPP).

 

Record Growth in Global Rankings and Research

In her presentation, Vice-Rector Prof. Elif Damla Arısan shared the university’s tangible achievements supported by data. She noted that in 2025, GTU reached 838 publications, with 84.6% published in high-impact (Q1–Q2) journals. In the field of intellectual property, the university achieved a record level with 41 new patent applications in a single year. As a result of these achievements, GTU has risen to 345th place in the QS Europe 2026 rankings, continuing its upward momentum on a global scale.

 

A New Era in Infrastructure and Digital Transformation

Addressing efforts to improve campus life, Prof. Arısan stated that major projects such as the Central Classroom Building and the Aerospace Faculty had been completed and put into operation. She added that internet speed was increased to 2 Gbps as part of the digital infrastructure upgrade, and that supermarket and cafeteria projects were implemented to enhance on-campus social facilities. She emphasized that the university would continue to accelerate technology- and student-oriented investments throughout 2026.
