Gebze Technical University and the Municipality of Lüleburgaz sign a cooperation protocol in the field of urban and regional planning aimed at urban development and scientific research.

An “Expression of Goodwill for Cooperation Protocol” has been signed between Gebze Technical University (GTU) and the Municipality of Lüleburgaz, envisaging collaboration on urban and environmental projects. The protocol was signed at the GTU Rectorate by GTU Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar and Mayor Murat Gerenli, PhD.

Academic Efforts Crowned by the Protocol

The protocol builds upon the success of the “Lüleburgaz Urban Development Strategy and Planning” project carried out by students of the GTU Department of City and Regional Planning during the 2023–2024 Academic Year. Conducted over two semesters within the scope of the CRP 301 and CRP 302 courses, these studies have fostered university–local government collaboration and laid the groundwork for the development of participatory and inclusive urban planning models.

Science and Local Government Hand in Hand

The collaboration aims to integrate the university’s academic expertise into the municipality’s planning and service processes. The main areas of cooperation highlighted within the scope of the protocol are as follows:

Academic Support: GTU will provide technical analysis and expert support in areas such as urban design, climate change, and local development.

Field Studies: The municipality will facilitate data sharing and provide field opportunities for students’ internships, technical visits, and graduation projects.

Joint Projects: Both institutions will take part as stakeholders in research projects to be carried out at national and international levels.

Community Involvement: Joint workshops and seminars will be organized to develop solutions for local issues.

This expression of goodwill serves as a framework document that will form the basis for more formal and comprehensive projects to be implemented by the parties in the future.
