December 15, 2025 - GTU Office of Press and Public Relations Gebze Technical University (GTU) family comes together for an important environmental event aimed at creating a cleaner and healthier campus environment. Organized under the leadership of the GTU Young TEMA and Community Volunteers (TOG) student societies, the Coastal Cleanup Event is held on Saturday, December 13, with strong participation.
Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar and Vice-Rector Prof. Mahmut Durmuş personally took part in the event, showing their support for students’ environmental awareness efforts. In addition to students, academic and administrative staff members of GTU also joined the initiative. Plastic, paper, and metal waste accumulated along the campus coastline was collected during the cleanup.
Emphasis on Environmental Awareness At the end of the event, Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar shared his reflections, emphasizing that universities must lead not only through scientific research but also through social responsibility initiatives. Prof. Mantar stated, “Together with our student societies, we have cleaned our campus shoreline. I am proud of our young people who act with a strong sense of environmental responsibility. Our efforts to keep our campus and surroundings clean together with our students will continue.”
While achieving its goal of restoring cleanliness to the GTU coastline, the event also provided all participants with a weekend enriched by heightened environmental awareness. GTU plans to continue organizing similar activities in pursuit of a cleaner future. |
