December 12, 2025 - GTU Office of Press and Public Relations Organized in collaboration with the GTU Science Communication Office and the Çayırova District Directorate of National Education, the Science Café event turns into an interactive gathering that keeps students’ curiosity for aviation and space alive.
The Science Café event, themed “Touching the Sky: Aviation, Space, and the Future,” was jointly organized by Gebze Technical University (GTU) Science Communication Office and the Çayırova District Directorate of National Education, bringing together science-enthusiast students in an engaging and inspiring discussion environment centered on aviation.
Held under the coordination of the “Çayırova Student Academy” operating within the Çayırova District Directorate of National Education and the GTU Science Communication Office, the event has become one of the exemplary university–city collaboration practices. Students from middle and high schools across the Çayırova district had the opportunity to ask experts and university students their questions about aviation and space technologies in a friendly atmosphere far from the classical seminar format.
Hosted by Çayırova 15 Temmuz Şehitler Science High School, the gathering featured members of the GTU Aviation and Space Club, who shared examples of university projects. Students particularly conveyed their experiences regarding the TEKNOFEST processes and encouraged young participants to take part in such organizations. The attendees were informed about current studies in aviation and space and engaged in an interactive conversation.
The event was also attended by Çayırova District Director of National Education Recep Demir; Branch Manager Hüseyin Dilek; Hasan Yılmaz, Principal of 15 Temmuz Şehitler Science High School; and Samet Kabakkaya, Principal of Mustafa Necati Middle School, who shared the students’ enthusiasm and interest.
Tuğba Şen, Project Coordinator of the Çayırova Student Academy, and Çiçek Tomrukçu (PhD), Academic and GTU Science Communication Office Supervisor, stated that such events help broaden students’ academic vision and strengthen their engagement with science.
The science café concluded with conversations on aviation, answers to students’ questions, and a group photo session. |
