Gebze Technical University (GTU) prioritizes not only the production of scientific knowledge but also its transformation into social impact. As a concrete reflection of this mission, the GTU Social Impact Coordination Office, in collaboration with GTU master's students in Management Program and with the support of the GTU Animal and Nature Protection Club (HADOK), carries out another meaningful project that reflects the university’s spirit of social responsibility. As part of the “Paw It Forward” (İyiliğe Pati At) social responsibility project, students demonstrate a remarkable act of solidarity for the animal companions living in the shelter on campus.

Within the scope of the project, eight kennels and pet food supplies were provided by the GTU master's students in Management Program, while the remaining seven kennels and food support were contributed by Üstün Gebze Makine Industry and Trade Inc., which supported the project. The planning and execution of the activities were guided by Prof. Meral Elçi, Asst. Prof. Diğdem Acarel, and Asst. Prof. Merve Mocan, creating a strong example of social solidarity through institutional, student, and volunteer contributions.

GTU Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar visited the shelter, met with the students, listened to their needs, and stated that he would provide support for the shelter’s requirements. Rector Mantar expressed his satisfaction with the students’ commitment to creating social impact.

Thanks to the “Paw It Forward” project, the living conditions of the animals in the shelter have improved, while the participating students gained a valuable experience that strengthened their social awareness and sense of responsibility. By transforming theoretical knowledge into social impact, the students not only raised awareness of animal rights but also put the culture of solidarity into practice in a meaningful way.
