November 25, 2025 - GTU Office of Press and Public Relations The “The Future Is In the Skies” (İstikbal Göklerdedir) project, carried out in collaboration with Gebze 23rd April Science and Art Center (BİLSEM) and supported by TÜBİTAK 4004, is successfully completed with the academic and physical contributions of Gebze Technical University (GTU) Aerospace Faculty. During the project, 48 elementary school students gain hands-on scientific experience with unmanned aerial vehicles and missile systems in GTU laboratories, providing them with a unique opportunity to explore the fascinating world of space and aviation.
Designed for 4th-grade students studying in schools in the Gebze district, the project was conducted in two separate sessions on October 10, 2025 and November 20, 2025, reaching a total of 48 students. The primary goal of the project was to increase students’ curiosity about space and aviation and to support their learning processes through STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics)–based activities.
Within this scope, the GTU Aerospace Faculty opened its doors to the young scientists. Participants toured the faculty laboratories and received detailed information from academics about unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and missile systems. Students had the chance to apply their theoretical knowledge in hands-on workshops, particularly by designing their own missile launch ramps while learning about the working principles of launch and landing ramps.
Academics from GTU Aerospace Faculty, who were part of the project’s expert team, guided the students’ scientific development and made significant contributions to the project’s implementation. With the support of the GTU Science Communication Office, students and teachers hosted on the university campus had the opportunity to observe scientific processes firsthand.
Following the completion of the activities, a closing ceremony was held at Gebze 23rd April BİLSEM, attended by Gebze Mayor Zinnur Büyükgöz; Şenol Peköz, Gebze District Director of National Education; Prof. İlyas Kandemir, Dean of GTU Aerospace Faculty; Research Assistant Osman Giray Oğuzman; and Faculty Secretary Bayram Sarı.
In his closing speech, Prof. İlyas Kandemir emphasized the importance of the project in fostering children’s interest in aviation and thanked Gebze BİLSEM officials and everyone involved for their collaboration. Through pre- and post-test assessments measuring the increase in students’ interest in space and aviation, this meaningful project was successfully completed, inspiring the future generation of aviators.
