November 21, 2025 - GTU Office of Press and Public Relations Students from Gebze Technical University’s (GTU) Department of City and Regional Planning are awarded first place at the KentFest 2025 Urbanization Ideathon with their project “KentSafe,” which proposes youth-focused safe routes and living spaces.
The KentFest 2025 Urbanization Ideathon, organized by Kentsev – the Urban Transformation and Urbanism Foundation, concluded successfully. Under the theme “Living Spaces and Technology Integration for Youth in the Cities of the Future,” the GTU team, consisting of students Caner Çakır, Nisanur Aktaş, Zehra Saygılı, and Abdurrahim Kahya, have won first prize with their innovative project.
Merging Technology With Spatial Design The competition challenged participants to analyze youth-focused urban issues and propose innovative solutions to enhance safe, accessible, and digitally-supported public spaces within the city. The GTU team presented their project “KentSafe: Youth Path Empowered by Technology,” which integrates spatial design with technology to address these challenges.
Safe and Interactive Routes for Youth: KentSafe The award-winning project took a holistic approach to the Küçükyalı Archeopark, İdealtepe 50th Year Grove, and Maltepe Coastal Line. The team redesigned the route using a safe route algorithm, density analysis, a QR task system, and thematic public space designs.
Aiming to transform the area into a “youth axis,” the project offers a comprehensive public life model that is safe, navigable, and interactive both in physical spaces and on digital platforms.
We congratulate our students for successfully representing our university and wish them continued success in their future endeavors. |
