A comprehensive cooperation protocol is implemented between GTU and TÜBİTAK Science High School, Türkiye’s leading institution in science-based education. The protocol aims to enable high school students to develop R&D projects in university laboratories, conduct patent-driven studies, and receive academic mentorship support.

As a hub of science and technology, Gebze Technical University (GTU) has taken another strategic step toward cultivating Türkiye’s future scientists. Prepared to enhance the quality of education, promote scientific research, and strengthen social cooperation, the protocol between GTU and TÜBİTAK Science High School has officially been signed at a ceremony.

The signing ceremony, held on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at TÜBİTAK Science High School, was attended by GTU Vice-Rector Prof. Mahmut Durmuş on behalf of Gebze Technical University and School Principal Hacı Ahmet Yıldırım (PhD) on behalf of TÜBİTAK Science High School. With the protocol now in effect, a strong bridge is expected to be built between high school-level education and the university’s vision.

Opening the Campus to Young Researchers

Under the protocol, the students of TÜBİTAK Science High School will have the opportunity to use GTU’s advanced research laboratories, workshop facilities, library, and electronic databases. Students will be able to carry out their scientific studies on campus at times deemed appropriate by the university and in line with the approved planning.

Academic Mentorship and Joint Projects

One of the key pillars of the cooperation is the academic mentorship system. GTU faculty members and university students will provide guidance for the high school's students in their projects, offering scientific methodology and technical support. The Parties will also be able to submit joint applications to R&D-focused funding mechanisms, particularly TÜBİTAK, BAP, and international grant programs.

Transforming Scientific Outputs Into Entrepreneurship

The protocol supports not only academic training but also the entrepreneurship ecosystem. Joint project outputs will be encouraged to evolve into scientific publications, patent applications, and potential "start-up" or "spin-off" initiatives. Summer schools, science camps, and coding and robotics workshops will be organized to support students’ scientific and personal development.

International Vision and Continuous Development

Within the framework of the agreement, international collaboration programs, student exchanges, and joint activities with overseas research centers are also planned. The cooperation process will be evaluated annually through performance indicators and will be enriched with joint conferences and science competitions.
