| November 18, 2025 - GTU Office of Press and Public Relations Prof. Melek Özkan hands over her role to Assoc. Prof. Emel Topuz.
A handover has taken place within the Sustainability Coordination Office at Gebze Technical University (GTU). Prof. Melek Özkan, known for her research in environmental microbiology and environmental biotechnology, has completed her term as coordinator after leading the establishment of the office in 2022 and spearheading several significant initiatives. Prof. Özkan, who has contributed greatly to the development of an institutional sustainability culture at GTU through her work on renewable fuels, biosensors, biomimetic materials, and sustainable campus practices, was thanked by the Vice-Rector for Research, Prof. Elif Damla Arısan.
As of 2025, Assoc. Prof. Emel Topuz has been designated as the Coordinator of the Sustainability Office. Topuz is recognized for her academic expertise and research in the field of environmental engineering. Her research focuses on the behavior, measurement, and toxic effects of micropollutants in environmental media, and her areas of specialization include soil ecotoxicity, environmental risk assessment and management, and multi-criteria decision-making methods.
In the new term, Assoc. Prof. Topuz will lead efforts to strengthen GTU’s sustainability strategies, regularly monitor environmental performance, and further expand sustainable campus practices. Prof. Elif Damla Arısan expressed her best wishes to Topuz in her new role, noting that this transition will make significant contributions to GTU’s sustainability vision. |
