November 17, 2025 - GTU Office of Press and Public Relations Gebze Technical University (GTU) students earn Honorable Mention in the prestigious “Urban and Regional Planning Graduation Project Competition 2025,” where planning departments of universities from across Türkiye compete intensely.
Organized in collaboration with the Chamber of City Planners (TMMOB ŞPO) and the Association of Planning Schools of Türkiye (TUPOB), the competition brought together 48 contestants from 16 universities. Five student teams from GTU participated, and two projects were unanimously granted Equal Honorable Mention Awards.
The award-winning projects and students are as follows: Utku Halit Sucuoğlu & İrem Baysal with “Üsküdar from a Heterotopia Perspective,” and Sema Aybel & Şeyda Sungur with “Plan B for Üsküdar: Layers of the Skyline – Vertical Views of Üsküdar.”
The awards were presented at the 49th World Urbanism Day | On the Brink of Change (2025) Colloquium, a major scientific event held in Bursa between 6–8 November 2025. In addition to the two winning projects, other GTU student projects participating in the competition were also selected among the top 10 to be exhibited at the colloquium.
This competition holds significant value in comparing educational systems across universities and promoting the planning profession within society. With its consistent success over the past four years, the Department of City and Regional Planning at Gebze Technical University has once again demonstrated not only its high-quality educational approach but also its students’ creativity and strong standards in project development. |
