Institute of Nanotechnology at Gebze Technical University (GTU) achieves remarkable international success with its project accepted for funding under the TÜBİTAK 2524–Italy MAECI Bilateral Cooperation Program.

Titled “Hydrogen Purification Efficiency: Revealing Molecular Constraints in State-of-the-Art Membranes,” the project focuses on innovative membrane technologies for the purification of hydrogen, a key element in clean energy solutions. The project will be conducted under the coordination of Assoc. Prof. Sadiye Velioğlu, with Research Assistant Hasan Topaçlı as a team member, in collaboration with Prof. Elena Tocci from the National Research Council (CNR) of Italy.

The research aims to thoroughly investigate the physical aging problem of Thermally Rearranged (TR) and Carbon Molecular Sieve (CMS) membranes used in syngas separation. Its main goal is to evaluate the effects of the aging process on membrane performance and develop more stable and efficient membranes for hydrogen separation.

Through this project, it is intended to advance sustainable hydrogen production, accelerate energy transition, and mitigate climate change. Producing clean hydrogen with a lower carbon footprint will accelerate the adoption of hydrogen as a clean energy source, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and support a more sustainable energy future.
