Gebze Technical University (GTU) holds the launch meeting of the project titled “AI-Integrated Monitoring and Analysis Methodology for a Sustainable and Energy-Efficient Smart Campus” on October 21, 2025, at the GTU Congress Center. The initiative marks another major step in the university’s vision for sustainability and AI-driven transformation.

Conducted under the coordination of the Rectorate and supported within the scope of ADEP Scientific Research Projects (BAP), the project brings together academics from various disciplines, including engineering, architecture, informatics, and environmental sciences. This multidisciplinary initiative reinforces GTU’s vision as a research university and stands out with its components such as AI-assisted energy and resource management, waste reduction, carbon footprint measurement, and sustainable transportation systems.

During the meeting, innovative applications developed to enhance campus energy efficiency and minimize environmental impact were introduced. Project Coordinator Prof. Elif Damla Arısan emphasized the project’s holistic approach, stating, “This is not merely a technology project, but also a transformation model that raises environmental awareness and involves all stakeholders, from students to academics.”

Participants highlighted that this initiative, which strengthens GTU’s sustainability vision through concrete actions, will serve as a model for universities across Türkiye.

With this project, GTU aims to play a pioneering role in achieving Türkiye’s 2053 Carbon-Neutral Vision by increasing energy efficiency, optimizing waste management, and making campus life more environmentally-friendly.
