October 21, 2025 - GTU Office of Press and Public Relations Within the scope of the “Sports-Friendly Campus” project, Gebze Technical University (GTU) fulfills the requirements of the “Nutrition-Friendly and Physically-Active Workplace” certificate it received by organizing weekly “Walks for Health” events for its staff and students.
Carried out in cooperation with the Council of Higher Education (CoHE) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the “Sports-Friendly Campus” project awarded GTU the “Nutrition-Friendly and Physically-Active Workplace” certificate on December 27, 2024. In line with the commitments of this certification, the university has taken an important step by launching “Regular Walking Events” that include all academic and administrative staff as well as students.
Organized under the theme “We Are Taking Steps for Health”, these walks aim not only to promote participants’ physical well-being but also to enhance stress management, mental resilience, and psychological well-being. Moreover, by taking place outdoors, the walks are designed to strengthen the sense of belonging for the institution and improve social interaction across the campus.
The regular walking events, launched under the slogan “We Are Taking Steps for Health”, will be held every Tuesday at 12:15 p.m. Participants will start the walk in front of GTU Butterfly Café, follow the designated woodland walking trail on campus, and finish the route in front of the Rectorate Building.
Considering the role of regular physical activity in preventing chronic diseases, especially obesity, and in supporting the immune system, these walks are planned to be conducted in a consistent and sustainable manner. The participation of all staff and students is of great importance in promoting and adopting a healthy lifestyle across the GTU community. |
