October 13, 2025 - GTU Office of Press and Public Relations Leading organizations of the defense industry come together with academics and students at the SAVTECH#4 event held at Gebze Technical University (GTU).
Organized by the GTU Astronomy and Physics Society (APS) on October 6–7, 2025, the SAVTECH event's fourth edition was held with broad participation this year at the GTU Congress and Cultural Center. Standing out as the largest defense industry event in the region, the organization brought together leading companies in the field, academics, students, and participants interested in the sector.
At the stands set up in the foyer area, students had the opportunity to meet engineers and human resources representatives from major companies such as ASELSAN, HAVELSAN, TEI, TUSAŞ, STM, Sarsılmaz, and Teknopark Istanbul. Participants received information about career opportunities and learned detailed information about new technologies and products from company representatives. In addition, vehicles developed by Sarsılmaz and HAVELSAN were exhibited on the university campus as part of the event.
The opening speech of the program was delivered by GTU Vice-Rector Prof. Elif Damla Arısan. In her speech, Arısan emphasized that the defense industry holds strategic importance not only in terms of security but also in terms of economic independence, technological progress, and international competitiveness.
“Our national defense industry, working with great dedication, continues to strengthen our country. The continuation of this development will be possible through the interest and contribution of our students who will take over this field in the future,” she said.
Emphasizing GTU’s mission of cultivating qualified human resources, Arısan stated that the university, with over 10,000 students and more than 160 research laboratories, leads the way in transferring knowledge to the industry. She also extended her gratitude to all stakeholders who supported the event, particularly ASELSAN, TUSAŞ, TEI, HAVELSAN, Marmara Technopark, Teknopark Istanbul, and Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality.
Following the opening speech, a plaque of appreciation was presented to Prof. Arısan by the members of the APS Society.
Throughout SAVTECH#4, sector executives and experts shared their experiences with students during the sessions, while participants had the opportunity to ask questions during the Q&A sections. Students learned firsthand about the latest products and technologies of the defense industry directly from experts.
The event highlighted the role of the defense industry in Türkiye’s technological and economic development while offering students the chance to explore career paths and establish professional connections. |
