Kocaeli edition of the NASA Space Apps Challenge, one of the world’s largest hackathons, is held at Gebze Technical University (GTU). The event, hosted at the GTU Congress and Cultural Center, brings together technology enthusiasts from various cities.

Organized by the GTU Computer Society on October 4-5, 2025, the event challenged participants to introduce innovative solutions to global problems using NASA’s open data over a 48-hour period.

The event kicked off at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 4. Teams selected the most suitable “Challenge” titles announced by NASA and began an uninterrupted working process. Throughout the intensive session, which lasted until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 5, the organizing team and technical mentors were on-site to support the participants.

Within the framework of the competition rules, participants finalized their projects and prepared their presentations. The excitement of the final began at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 5. A total of 16 teams presented their project ideas and solutions to the jury members, answering questions from both the jury and the audience while sharing the details of their projects.

After the jury’s evaluation, the top three winning teams of the NASA Space Apps Challenge–Kocaeli event were awarded. The results were as follows: 1st Place – FLYIST Project: IMPACT (Interactive Meteor Physics and Collision Tracker); 2nd Place – INZVA Project: EEXOHUNTER: Multisignal Planetary Detection System; 3rd Place – M1T0CH0DR14 Project: BESR (Biology Engine for Scientific Research).

This global hackathon, held at GTU under the leadership of the GTU Computer Society, concluded successfully by providing young programmers and engineers with an opportunity to showcase their talents at an international level.
