September 26, 2025 - GTU Office of Press and Public Relations The Department of Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture, Gebze Technical University (GTU), achieves significant success. The project titled “Morph-ora”, developed by the Responsive Ground Research Lab team as a collective work of the Water-Ground First-Year Architectural Design Studio, is selected for participation in the Open Call Selection of the International Architecture Biennial of Antalya (IABA) 4.5.
“Morph-ora,” based on experimental research conducted in the Tuzla Lagoon, is based on an interdisciplinary design process that aims to rethink architecture through biotechnology, material science, ecology, and digital fabrication processes. The project questions the notion of fixed space, proposing living systems that are responsive to environmental variables.
The team was formed under the leadership of Assoc. Prof. Fitnat Cimşit-Koş from the Department of Architecture, together with Res. Asst. Seben Aşkın-Kütükçü, PhD student Zehra Delerel, undergraduate students Asiyenur Gür, Berfin Beril Eker, Betül Yamalı, Boran Tan, Büşra Soyarslan, Duru Tekiner, Ebrar Sönmez, Ebru Nisa Karataş, Elanur Özgül, Eylül Aykutalp, Feridun Çanakcı, Hayal Karataş, Meliha Şeyma Kurt, Polat Demir, Saliha Yerli, Sıla Terzioğlu, Tolga Özçelik, Tuğba Alptekin, along with Asst. Prof. Betül Ozar from Işık University and Özgür Kavurmacıoğlu (PhD) from Responsive Ground Research Lab. The project was supervised by Asst. Prof. Ümit Barış Kutman from the GTU Institute of Biotechnology.
This achievement once again highlights the vision of our Department of Architecture in interdisciplinary research, design, and production, as well as its strong academic tradition based on student–faculty collaboration.
