September 23, 2025 - GTU Office of Press and Public Relations Prof. Işıl Kurnaz from Gebze Technical University (GTU) contributes two significant chapters to a prestigious book published by an international publishing house. The book, titled “Science Diplomacy for Global Challenges”, prepared in collaboration with TÜBA and AASSA, sheds light on issues such as sustainable development goals and science communication.
The book, which emerged as an outcome of the “Science Diplomacy for Sustainable Development Symposium” held in Ankara on June 28–29, 2024, brings together leading experts in the field. Edited by TÜBA President Prof. Muzaffer Şeker and Assoc. Prof. Mürsel Doğrul, the volume explores the role of scientific collaboration and policies in addressing global challenges.
Published in 2025 under the imprint of TÜBA Publications (ISBN: 978-625-6110-39-7), the book also addresses contemporary issues such as how scientists should shape their communication strategies with the public and policymakers.
Two Notable Contributions from Prof. Kurnaz Prof. Işıl Kurnaz, Director of the Institute of Biotechnology and Faculty Member at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at GTU, has made remarkable contributions to the book with two separate chapters. She is also a recipient of the 2007 TÜBA GEBİP award.
Her first article, titled “Measuring Performance for Sustainable Development Goals: A Review From Social, Economic, and Environmental Perspectives Under Scientific Diplomacy”, discusses how sustainable development goals can be more effectively monitored and evaluated through scientific diplomacy.
Her second article, “Science Communication and Science Advice Requires Specific Tools: How Can We Help Early Career Researchers”, provides guidance for young researchers. The chapter examines the specific tools and methods needed to deliver scientific knowledge to society and policymakers. |
