Assoc. Prof. Hakan Oflaz, a faculty member in the Department of Bioengineering at Gebze Technical University (GTU) Faculty of Engineering, returns with a gold medal from the TÜRKPATENT ISIF – Istanbul International Inventions Fair for the innovative device he has developed through his company, HGO Medikal San. Tic. A.Ş.
The patented project, conducted via HGO Medikal San. Tic. A.Ş., which operates in the Bilişim Vadisi Technology Development Zone and is supported by TÜBİTAK TEYDEB 1501, offers a groundbreaking solution for mosquito control. Named “Control Device Eliminating Mosquito Development Stages Using Sound Waves,” this innovative technology uses ultrasonic waves to neutralize mosquito larvae. Unlike chemical interventions that threaten ecological balance and human health, the device renders larvae inactive within seconds, effectively controlling mosquito populations. Eco-friendly, sustainable, and cost-effective, this technology provides a significant alternative to existing mosquito control methods.
This major achievement was celebrated at the TÜRKPATENT ISIF – Istanbul International Inventions Fair, held as part of TEKNOFEST from September 17–21, 2025, marking its 10th anniversary. Competing against 480 projects from 24 countries, Assoc. Prof. Oflaz’s project has been recognized as the most original in its field and awarded the Gold Medal, showcasing the excellence of both Gebze Technical University and Türkiye in science and technology. |
