Researchers at Gebze Technical University (GTU) make a significant contribution to Türkiye’s technological and energy advancements by winning first place in the 4th "Patentle Türkiye" (Patent It, Türkiye) Universities Patent Competition. The achievement is earned by Research Assistant Tuğçe Ucun from GTU's Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, and her advisor Prof. Hüseyin Yılmaz for their patent titled “Simplified Low-Temperature Production of Solid Oxide Fuel Cells via Cold Sintering and Aerosol Deposition.”

Supported by TÜBİTAK’s 1005 – National New Ideas and Products Research Funding Program, the award ceremony took place on September 20, 2025, during the TEKNOFEST Aerospace and Technology Festival at the TÜRKPATENT ISIF’25 Istanbul International Inventions Fair. The ceremony was attended by Mehmet Fatih Kacır, Minister of Industry and Technology, who presented the award to the GTU team alongside GTU Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar.

A Groundbreaking Method for Energy Production

The "Patent It, Türkiye" competition aims to raise awareness of patents in universities, prepare students for professional life, and encourage innovation activities. GTU’s project aligns with these goals by offering a simpler, faster, and more cost-effective method for producing Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs), which provide clean and efficient energy.

Unlike traditional methods, this innovative technology uses cold sintering and aerosol deposition techniques to produce SOFCs at much lower temperatures in a single step. This approach significantly reduces energy consumption, time, and labor costs during production, paving the way for wider access to advanced energy technologies and promoting the adoption of clean energy solutions.
