September 18, 2025 - GTU Office of Press and Public Relations Pehlül Bekir Okumuşoğlu, a master’s student at Gebze Technical University (GTU) Nanotechnology Institute, wins the 2024 Özgen Berkol Doğan Best Experimental Poster Presentation Award, presented by the Turkish Physical Society.
Okumuşoğlu received the award during the opening ceremony of the 41st International Physics Congress of the Turkish Physical Society for his work titled “2D Nanomaterials and OLEDs: Performance Optimization in Next Generation Lighting Technologies.” The award was presented by Prof. Baki Akkuş, President of the Turkish Physical Society; Prof. Mairi Sakellariadou, President of the European Physical Society; 2007 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Prof. Geoffrey Levermore; Bodrum Mayor Tamer Mandalinci; and Bodrum District Governor Ali Sırmalı.
The study investigated the integration of next-generation 2D inorganic nanomaterials into OLED devices via thin-film layers. The effects of different concentration ratios on device efficiency, brightness, current density, and external quantum efficiency (EQE) were examined. The results demonstrated that 2D nanomaterial incorporation plays a significant role in enhancing OLED performance and provides optimization opportunities for future lighting technologies.
At the same congress, Okumuşoğlu also represented the GTU Institute of Nanotechnology with his oral presentation titled “Performance Analysis of Carbon-Based Electrodes with Gel Electrolytes in Flexible Supercapacitors.” His research is conducted under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Şölen Kınayyiğit from the GTU Institute of Nanotechnology and Assoc. Prof. Selin Pıravadılı from TÜBİTAK MAM. |
