September 10, 2025 - GTU Office of Press and Public Relations The “Cybersecurity Awareness Project,” carried out in collaboration with the Faculty of Business Administration at Gebze Technical University (GTU), Darıca District Governor’s Office, and Darıca District Directorate of National Education, is successfully completed.
The project results were shared at a closing event attended by GTU Rector Darıca District Governor Yaşar Dönmez, Darıca Mayor Muzaffer Bıyık, District Director of National Education Murat Balay, GTU academics, and teachers of information technologies.
The project was led by Assoc. Prof. Ceren Çubukçu-Çerasi, with a team consisting of Assoc. Prof. Serhat Erat, Assoc. Prof. Farid Huseynov, Assoc. Prof. Büşra Özdenizci-Köse, Arzu Kilitçi-Çalayır (PhD), Research Assistant Hatice Koç, and Research Assistant Aslı Kılıç.
Within the scope of the project, cybersecurity awareness levels of students at four pilot high schools in Darıca were measured, followed by training programs designed to enhance this awareness. Comparative results from pre- and post-training surveys revealed significant improvement in students’ knowledge regarding personal data protection, recognizing social engineering attacks, and detecting digital fraud. In particular, it was noted that awareness levels among 11th and 12th grade students, as well as female participants, increased markedly by the end of the project.
In a statement by GTU, it was emphasized that the project not only strengthened students’ digital security skills but also contributed to raising broader societal awareness of cybersecurity. The university expressed gratitude to all institutions and stakeholders that supported the collaboration. |
