AI Applications in Retail Industry Discussed at GTU

An international seminar is organized in collaboration with the Department of Computer Engineering at Gebze Technical University (GTU), GTU Technology Transfer Office, GTU TECHNOPARK, INOSENS, and HIDDENSLATE, and hosted by GTU. The event is held within the scope of the Cognitive Smart Assistant in Phygital Environment (CAPE) project, supported by TÜBİTAK TEYDEB under the ITEA4 program.

 

The seminar, entitled “Retail Industry and AI Applications,” took place on September 9, 2025, at the GTU Congress and Cultural Center, bringing together academics, researchers, and industry representatives from Korea, Portugal, and Turkey.

 

At the opening of the event, Assoc. Prof. Yakup Genç from GTU's Department of Computer Engineering shared the university’s vision for technology and innovation, emphasizing the significance of the CAPE project. Following the opening, İsmail Uzun (PhD), representing INOSENS and HIDDENSLATE, presented the project’s vision and the innovative approach regarding virtual assistants. Representatives from IDB, KAIST, and SmartCore in Korea delivered presentations on building human-centered, secure, and intelligent work environments. Prof. Goreti from ISEP, Portugal, highlighted GECAD’s research and collaborations in the field of artificial intelligence, while Isabel Ribeiro and André Rodrigues from FTP shared their partnership experiences through a presentation titled “Growing up Together.” Setenay Gemici Öztürk from Doğuş Teknoloji, Türkiye, introduced the company’s initiatives, and Gamze Öztürk from TAV Technologies demonstrated with examples how AI solutions enhance passenger experience and operational excellence at airports. Aylin Yorulmaz from KoçSistem contributed insights on AI-powered text analytics. The program concluded with a networking session.

 

The seminar not only strengthened knowledge and experience sharing among academics and industry professionals from different countries but also opened the door to new collaborations and innovative projects in the retail sector through AI-driven solutions.
