VI. International Enzyme and Bioprocess Days Concluded

The VI. International Enzyme and Bioprocess Days (EBDays 2025), jointly organized by Gebze Technical University (GTU) and Kocaeli University (KOU), is held on August 27–29, 2025, hosted by Kocaeli University. The three-day event focuses on recent developments in enzyme technologies, bioprocesses, biotechnology applications, and industrial collaborations.

 

The opening ceremony took place at Kartepe Park Hotel with the participation of KOU Rector Prof. Nuh Zafer Cantürk, Gebze Mayor Zinnur Büyükgöz, GTU Vice-Rector Prof. Elif Damla Arısan, KOU Vice-Rector Prof. Elif Öğüt, GTU Faculty of Engineering Dean Prof. Yusuf Sinan Akgül, KOU Faculty of Arts and Sciences Dean Prof. Ümit Ay, Congress Chairs Prof. Yonca Duman, Prof. Barış Binay, and Asst. Prof. Mine Nazan Kerimak-Öner, along with academics from national and international universities.

 

Following a moment of silence and the Turkish National Anthem, KOU Rector Prof. Nuh Zafer Cantürk emphasized the global significance of research in the field of enzymes and bioprocesses, stating: “The field of enzymes and bioprocesses directly impacts our lives, from pharmaceuticals and therapeutic applications to biotechnology, food safety, and industrial production processes. Scientific collaborations in this area play a critical role in building a healthier and more sustainable future for humanity.”

 

Gebze Mayor Zinnur Büyükgöz highlighted the direct impact of enzyme and bioprocess studies on human life: “If we ask for whom enzymes and bioprocesses exist, the answer is clear: for humanity. We are pursuing an endeavor aimed at ensuring healthy lives. This approach not only focuses on the human body but also offers a perspective that will open new horizons.”

 

GTU Vice-Rector Prof. Elif Damla Arısan drew attention to the unifying power of science: “I am pleased to say that science brings us together. The collaboration between these two distinguished universities is highly valuable, and I hope we will achieve even greater success together.”

 

KOU Faculty of Arts and Sciences Dean Prof. Ümit Ay underlined the academic and social value of such meetings: “We believe this event will lead to new friendships, collaborations, and research areas, while also contributing to the promotion of our city.” 

 

GTU Faculty of Engineering Dean Prof. Yusuf Sinan Akgül noted the importance of joint efforts: “This was a wonderful organization with distinguished participants. I believe Kocaeli University and Gebze Technical University should come together more often. Each has its own unique strengths, and combining them will yield even greater outcomes.”

 

Following the speeches by Congress Chairs Prof. Yonca Duman, Prof. Barış Binay, and Asst. Prof. Mine Nazan Kerimak-Öner, the sessions commenced. Presentations covered enzyme technologies, bioprocesses, biotechnology applications, and industrial collaborations. The event also provided young researchers with the opportunity to engage with international scientists and develop new projects.
