September 8, 2025 - GTU Office of Press and Public Relations A project developed by high school students under the supervision and laboratory support of Gebze Technical University (GTU) academics is accepted to the international symposium organized by NASA at Johns Hopkins University.
Under the scientific supervision of Asst. Prof. Kamil Çınar, a faculty member at GTU’s Department of Physics, high school students Arda Çetinkaya and Buket Atalay have been invited to present their muon detector project at the 2025 Heliophysics Technology Symposium organized by NASA.
With the facilities provided by GTU’s Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Laboratory and Advanced Photonics Research Laboratory, the students had the opportunity to advance their project. Thanks to the studies carried out in GTU laboratories, the young researchers designed a more cost-effective and efficient scintillator, gaining the chance to present their work to the international scientific community.
Professor Kamil Çınar emphasized the significance of such a comprehensive study at the high school level being recognized internationally, stating that GTU takes pride in supporting future scientists. He also underlined that the students’ presentations of their projects at scientific seminars held within the university provided a motivating contribution for young researchers.
By offering supervision and laboratory support, GTU continues to contribute to the international achievements of young talents and to support the scientists of the future. |
