The project titled "Discovery and Experimental Validation of Small Molecules Targeting Interleukin-18 Activity", led by Prof. Emel Timuçin, Faculty Member, Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Faculty of Science, Gebze Technical University (GTU), is awarded funding by the Health Institutes of Türkiye (TÜSEB).

The IL-18 (Interleukin-18) protein, which plays a critical role in the immune system, is involved in the body’s defense against infections. However, excessive activity of this protein can trigger autoinflammatory diseases, which are commonly seen in Türkiye.

The project aims to discover and test novel small molecules that can potentially limit the overactivity of IL-18. At the conclusion of the study, the goal is to develop more effective and innovative treatments for diseases associated with elevated IL-18 activity. The project is expected to mark a significant step forward in the fight against autoinflammatory conditions.
