GTU has achieved a significant milestone with its application to the Green Transformation call under the 1833 Industry Innovation Network Mechanism (SAYEM), part of the Türkiye Green Industry Project carried out by TÜBİTAK with support from the World Bank. The “Tarım2030” project, coordinated by Migros, has been accepted, and GTU will take part as one of the coordinating partners, leading the acceleration of digital and green transformation in the agricultural sector.
Focusing on digitalization in national agriculture, the “Tarım2030” project aims to support sustainable, traceable, and competitive production in the agri-food chain through the development and dissemination of local products, starting with pilot products and systems. The project, planned to last for three years, will include seven productization projects, two of which will be led by Gebze Technical University.
The consortium consists of 18 partners, including 6 universities, 2 public institutions, and 9 private organizations, in addition to GTU. With a total budget of approximately 50 million Turkish Lira, the platform project is expected to strengthen the research infrastructure of GTU’s Institute of Biotechnology and establish GTU as a central hub in a broad collaboration network in the field of digital agriculture.
Two Key Productization Projects from GTU Asst. Prof. Ümit Barış Kutman from the GTU Institute of Biotechnology will lead a productization project aimed at developing innovative digital agricultural technologies for modern soilless greenhouse systems. In the project, the field implementation partner will be Mavruz Tarım A.Ş., a long-term collaborator of the Institute.
Meanwhile, Asst. Prof. Bahar Yıldız-Kutman will lead another productization project focused on developing digital technologies for soilless vertical farming systems. For this project, one of the Institute’s key stakeholders, Plant Factory A.Ş., will act as the field implementation partner.
In addition to the faculty members leading these projects, Lecturer Şükran Duman, Research Assistants Burak Tunçbaş, Hande Mutlu Durak, and Rıfat Buğra Bildiri will also serve as research staff in the “Tarım2030” project. Through these projects, GTU aims to make a significant contribution to Türkiye’s agricultural digital transformation and green industry goals.
