July 18, 2025 - GTU Office of Press and Public Relations The GeoTech Team from Gebze Technical University (GTU) achieves significant success in the TÜBİTAK University Students Research Project Competitions held as part of TEKNOFEST 2025. The team is awarded second place in the "Smart Cities and Transportation" category, making a name for themselves in one of Türkiye's major events in technology and science.
The project that has won second place, titled "Development of Decision Support Tools for Real Estate Management Using Artificial Intelligence Techniques for Sustainable Cities," was carried out by the GeoTech team, consisting of Büşra Demirci from GTU’s Department of Geomatics Engineering and Kerim Alp Özkan and Gülbeyaz Altuntaş from the Department of Computer Engineering. The project aims to offer innovative solutions for the future of smart cities.
Under the supervision of Prof. Arif Çağdaş Aydınoğlu from GTU's Department of Geomatics Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, and with the contributions of Research Assistant Süleyman Şişman, the GTU GeoTech Team continues its work as a dynamic group established within GTU’s Geographic Information Technologies Laboratory. Formed by students from various engineering disciplines, the Team develops projects that integrate Geographic Information Systems (GIS) with artificial intelligence technologies, focusing on areas such as smart cities, climate-resilient infrastructure, and land management to create social impact.
Following this important achievement, the GeoTech Team will take part in the TEKNOFEST 2025 final exhibition, which will be held in Istanbul between September 17–21, 2025, where they will receive their awards in a formal ceremony.
