A lavender harvest event is held with broad public participation as part of the Yourban (KentSenin) Project, jointly carried out by the Department of Architecture at Gebze Technical University (GTU) and the Municipality of Çayırova.
Organized in line with an approach that promotes nature-based solutions and urban agriculture, the event was part of the Yourban (KentSenin)Project, a collaboration between GTU’s Department of Architecture and the Municipality of Çayırova.
The lavender planting initiative launched by the Municipality of Çayırova last year was transformed into a participatory event this year with the support of the Yourban Project. More than 200 local residents took part in the harvest.
The event aimed to provide urban residents with hands-on experience in urban farming practices and to raise collective awareness about climate change. At the same time, it sought to enhance individuals’ resilience skills by strengthening their interaction with nature.
Through the Yourban Project, the initiative has not only supported community engagement but also made the local impact of collaboration between the university and the local government more visible. |
