GTU Electronics Engineering students Emir Özçelik and İbrahim Uzun win the “Best Engineering Design Project” award at IEEE SIU 2025 National Undergraduate Project Competition with their graduation project.
Emir Özçelik and İbrahim Uzun, senior students in the Department of Electronics Engineering at Gebze Technical University (GTU), have achieved significant success with their graduation project. Under the supervision of Prof. Oğuz Kucur and Asst. Prof. Saliha Büyükçorak-Edibali, their project titled "Performance of Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces With Transmit Antenna Selection" has received first place in the “Best Engineering Design Project” category at the 33rd IEEE Conference on Signal Processing and Communications Applications (SIU 2025).
The conference was hosted by Işık University and held between June 25–28, 2025. The award ceremony took place on the evening of the first day, June 25.
As part of the project, the performance of Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) was evaluated using the Transmit Antenna Selection (TAS) method. The system was tested under Rayleigh fading channel conditions in a simulation environment and supported by Monte Carlo simulations. In addition, with support from the Scientific and Technological Research Institution of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK), laboratory work was carried out at GTU’s Software-Defined Radio (SDR) Laboratory using domestic RIS hardware and SDR transceivers. The experiments demonstrated that transmit antenna selection positively contributes to system performance.
The IEEE SIU Conference is one of Türkiye’s most established and prestigious scientific platforms in the fields of signal processing and communications, bringing together academics and industry professionals. |
