GTU Transfers Strategic Patent to Industry

GTU undertakes another significant commercialization initiative as part of its university–industry collaboration efforts. The exclusive licensing rights of the invention titled “Functional Office Chair,” which is part of the university's patent portfolio and developed by Ramazan Aybey, an instructor in the Department of Physical Education and Sports, is licensed to Seçkin Büro Furniture Groups and Construction Industry Trade Ltd. Co.

 

The licensing agreement was signed with the participation of GTU Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar and Seçkin Büro CEO Seçkin Serbest. This collaboration not only contributes to national production capacity, but also sets an exemplary model for the transfer of academic knowledge to industry and its transformation into economic value.

 

Health-Friendly Technological Design

Designed with the aim of supporting human health, the functional office chair promotes movement by enabling active physical engagement in the environments where it is used. This innovative design encourages a dynamic lifestyle in the workplace, combining ergonomic comfort with healthy living.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, GTU Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar emphasized that one of the university’s core missions is to convert scientific outcomes into social benefit. He stated: “As Gebze Technical University, we not only generate knowledge, but also transform this knowledge into added value, contributing to our country’s economic and technological development. Strategic collaborations such as this one with industry are among the strongest gateways through which our university ecosystem connects with external stakeholders.”

 

University–Industry Collaboration Model

The commercialization process was coordinated with the professional support of the Gebze Technical University Technology Transfer Office, the Research Coordination Office, and CETLIS Consulting, a firm specialized in technology commercialization. In this process, the market potential of the patent was analyzed, an appropriate licensing model was developed, and contractual procedures were successfully completed.
