The rankings are announced during the Global Sustainable Development Congress, held for the first time in Türkiye by the international higher education ranking organization THE.

THE Impact Rankings evaluate universities worldwide based on their performance in achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations. In 2025, a total of 2,526 universities from 130 countries were assessed. In addition to its overall performance, GTU has demonstrated strong results in several individual goals. The university has been placed in the 101–200 band for Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure (SDG 9), and Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12), in the 301–400 band for Climate Action (SDG 13), and in the 401–600 band for Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6). With these results, GTU now ranks among the world’s top 500 universities in multiple sustainability areas.

This achievement reflects the global recognition of GTU’s dedicated efforts in sustainability and its meaningful contributions to society. The university’s position within the top 500 in selected goals highlights its leadership in advancing sustainable development on a global scale.

Commenting on the rankings, GTU Rector Prof. Hacı Ali Mantar stated that the Impact Rankings assess not only academic success, but also the societal and environmental contributions of universities, emphasizing their essential role in building a sustainable future. He noted that GTU’s strong standing confirms the university’s effective role in promoting the SDGs through its research, educational programs, and community initiatives. He also added that this international recognition will significantly contribute to Türkiye’s global competitiveness in higher education and extended his gratitude to all academic and administrative staff who contributed to this success.
