Gebze Technical University (GTU) academics and students bring the creative works of children affected by the February 6 earthquake in Hatay to Istanbul. The exhibition, titled "From Hatay to Istanbul: Children’s Unshakable Dreams", opens on May 24, 2025, at Kadıköy Municipality Barış Manço Cultural Center.

The exhibition, which features paintings, glass painting, collage, and mandala works created during art, sports, and science workshops held in Hatay, will remain open to visitors until May 30, 2025. GTU faculty and students, under the motto “The Butterfly Effect in Social Impact,” aim to touch the dreams of children from the earthquake zone through this meaningful project.

“We Don’t Want Hatay to Be Forgotten”

Assoc. Prof. Fatma Karaoğlu-Ceyhan from GTU’s Department of Mathematics stated: “After the earthquake, we began thinking about what we could do for the children and started organizing science, art, and sports workshops. With this exhibition, we aim to ensure that Hatay is not forgotten and to keep the children’s hopes alive.”

GTU students also shared their experiences from Hatay. Sıla Toksoy, an Economics student, said: “We worked with the children in a design workshop. The bond we built with them was truly meaningful.” Eylül Gözde Akar from the Department of Chemistry added: “We had unforgettable moments in the music and sports workshops. The joy in the children’s eyes touched us deeply.” İclal Döndü, a Chemical Engineering student, noted: “The children’s creativity and enthusiasm during the collage sessions motivated us as well.” Zeynep Çoban from the Department of Management shared: “Every moment we spent with them was precious. Reliving those memories through this exhibition is deeply moving.”

The exhibition is open to visitors at the Barış Manço Cultural Center until May 30, 2025.
