The Spring Tournament organized by Gebze Technical University (GTU) Directorate of Health, Culture and Sports, which started on Monday, April 28, 2025, comes to an end with the final matches held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025. A total of 793 participants compete across various branches including football, volleyball, basketball, tennis, badminton, athletics, chess, arm wrestling, and table tennis. Awards are presented to the winners at the GTU Sports Summit.
In the football tournament, the Security Team became the champion in the staff category, followed by the Ayyıldız Team in second place and the SKS Team in third. In the student football tournament, Eyüpspor took first place, Gazzespor came second, and the Hungr Immigrants team finished third.
In basketball, the Zibabs Team claimed first place, Emektarlar Team took second, and the Swimming Team finished third. In volleyball, the Salatasaray Team were champions, Plaeseuye Dikkat Team came second, and Muallim Pub Team secured third place.
In individual categories, Ayşe Orhan Erkovan took first place in women’s tennis, Zehra Yamak Kahveci second, and Gönül Yenilmez-Çiftçi third. For men’s tennis, Hakan Ata Yılmaz was the champion, Oğuzhan Erdem Tekel second, and Remzi Çınar third.
In table tennis, Emirhan Badur was first, Nuri Mahmut Sami Koç second, and Güney Altıokka third. In chess, Yasin Şale became champion, Emre İşçi second, and Bekir Karagöl third.
In arm wrestling, right hand student category, Abdulsamat Kasumov took first place, Rasim Kazanç second, and Dinçer Aytekin third. In the left hand student category, Muhammet Kartal was first, Talha Gürkan second, and Kemal Kutay Arabacı third. In the staff arm wrestling, Müslim Saha took first place, Mahmut Gazi Öztürk second.
In badminton, Yusuf Nalbant was the champion, Muhammet Kıranel second, and Mervan Deniz Yıldırım third. In athletics, for the 100 meters, Yavuz Bahadır İnce was first, Yunus Emre Daştan second, and Yunus Emre Özgüç third. For the 1500 meters, Yunus Emre Daştan took first, Yavuz Bahadır İnce second, and Enes Yılmaz third.
After the tournament, awards were presented at the GTU Sports Summit by notable figures including Recep Durul, President of Kocaelispor Club; Yusuf İzzettin Öztürk, President of Gebzespor Club; and Mete Kalkavan, Former FIFA Referee, to football winners. Chess and table tennis awards were presented by Eray Şamdan, Tokyo 2020 Olympic Karate silver medalist, and National Karate Coach Adnan Şamdan. Badminton and tennis awards were given by Nazlıcan İnci and Bengisu Erçetin, among the world’s top 40 badminton players. Volleyball and basketball awards were presented by national volleyball player Ersin Durgut and Gebze Municipality Sports Club Head Coach Fikret Ayan. Athletics and arm wrestling awards were handed out by Adidas Runners Captain Onur Şenkardeşler and national wave surfing athlete Yasin Pehlivan. |
