The project titled "Modeling Surface Water Quality Using Different Scenarios with QUAL2K: The Case of Dilderesi (Dilovası-Gebze-Kocaeli)," prepared as part of the doctoral dissertation by Meltem Yağcıoğlu, Research Assistant at Gebze Technical University (GTU) Institute of Earth and Marine Sciences, is awarded support under TÜBİTAK’s 1002-A Rapid Support Module.

The project will be conducted by a team led by Prof. M. Salim Öncel, faculty member at the Institute of Earth and Marine Sciences, serving as advisor, and Asst. Prof. Meltem Çelen, also a faculty member at the same institute, as a researcher. The study aims to determine the variation of the current pollutant load carried by the Dilderesi stream, which flows into the Izmit Bay, along the watercourse and predict future water quality conditions by applying different pollution load scenarios. By using the model with various scenarios, the project will support regional agricultural and industrial water use, contribute to improvements in treatment technologies, and provide municipalities and other relevant organizations with alternative methods for reducing water pollution.
