Bilge Duru Gürsoy, a second-year student in the Department of Environmental Engineering at Gebze Technical University (GTU) and the university’s designated “Climate Ambassador,” actively participates in various events to raise awareness about climate change and its impacts.

As part of her role, Gürsoy first took part in the Climate Ambassadors Training Camp held in Antalya. She then played an active role in the workshop titled “Interdisciplinary Approaches and Green Skills in Combating Climate Change” hosted by Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University. During the workshop, she provided comprehensive information to students about the root causes of climate change and the necessary individual and societal steps that must be taken to address this global issue.

Throughout the workshop, Gürsoy helped participants from various disciplines understand the deep connections between their areas of expertise and climate change, contributing to heightened awareness about the environmental impacts of their professions. Within the scope of the “Interdisciplinary Approaches and Green Skills in Combating Climate Change” workshop, she also made valuable contributions to reports on national and international strategies to combat climate change and how to mitigate its consequences with minimal damage.

İlker Akmırza, Assistant Professor at GTU’s Department of Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, was also among the invited speakers at the workshop. He delivered a presentation titled “Multiple Disaster Risk and Climate Crisis: Adaptation and Mitigation Strategies for Türkiye.” In his talk, Prof. Akmırza highlighted the close connection between climate change and the growing risk of multiple disasters in Türkiye. He also offered critical insights into how to develop an effective adaptation strategy and what urgent measures Türkiye must prioritize in response to the climate crisis.
