Project led by Assoc. Prof. Bahadır Ergün, a faculty member in the Department of Geomatics Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of Gebze Technical University (GTU), which aims to obtain more accurate three-dimensional position information from 360° panoramic images, is awarded funding under the TÜBİTAK 1002-A program.

The project titled “Analysis of K-Means and ANFIS Algorithms in the Geometric Calibration of the Projection Model of 360° Images Produced by Three-Dimensional Camera Technology”, coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Bahadır Ergün, with Assoc. Prof. Cumhur Şahin and Research Assistant Furkan Bilücan as researchers, has qualified for support under the TÜBİTAK 1002-A Rapid Support Module.

Within the scope of the project, a novel three-dimensional positioning model has been developed using 360° panoramic images, based on a proposed elliptical coordinate system and employing both the K-means algorithm and the hybrid artificial intelligence method known as Adaptive Network Based Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS), followed by a comparative analysis.

The project outputs are expected to contribute to more accurate and reliable positioning solutions, particularly in applications such as autonomous vehicles, robotic systems, augmented and virtual reality, and remote sensing technologies.
