Gebze Technical University (GTU) successfully concludes the Closing Conference of the European Union project “Common Learning Outcomes for European Managers in Construction VI” (CLOEMC VI), of which it is a partner. The event takes place on April 29, 2025 at the GTU Congress and Cultural Center, where key project outcomes and manuals are shared with international participants.

Successful Closure with International Participation

The Closing Conference of the Erasmus+ Project "CLOEMC VI", coordinated at GTU by Prof. Selçuk Toprak and his team from the Department of Civil Engineering, was held on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at the Blue Hall of GTU’s Congress and Cultural Center. In addition to academic staff and students, international project partners from Poland, Germany, Italy, and Iceland also took part in the event. The conference aimed to provide updated knowledge in the field of construction management and foster professional development.

Europe-Wide Collaboration: CLOEMC VI

Funded by the European Commission under the Erasmus+ Program – Cooperation Partnerships in Higher Education (KA220-HED), the CLOEMC VI project began in December 2022 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of May 2025. The project’s core objective is to establish standardized qualifications that allow for the mutual recognition of professional competencies of construction managers across EU countries and to adapt educational practices to meet current labor market needs. Led by Warsaw University of Technology (Poland), the project brings together GTU and universities from Germany, Italy, and Iceland, along with sectoral organizations from Poland.

Innovative Manuals for the Construction Sector Introduced

The conference focused on the seven new manuals developed under the project, presented as part of the Construction Managers’ Library (CML). These manuals were discussed in detail through presentations delivered by expert academics and practitioners:

• M33: Design and Execution of Facades for Construction Managers

• M34: Digital Twin in Construction

• M35: Urban Mining in Construction

• M36: Environmental Impacts of Earthquakes and Mining for Construction Managers

• M37: Logistics in Construction

• M38: Green Technology for Construction Managers

• M39: Talent Management and Future Competences of Construction Managers

These manuals provide construction managers with up-to-date knowledge and practical tools on critical topics such as digital technologies, sustainability, safety, efficiency, and human resource management.

Looking Ahead: European Building Expert (EurBE) Certification

With the addition of the seven new manuals developed in this phase, CLOEMC VI brings the total number of manuals to 39, contributing significantly to the body of knowledge in the European construction sector. The long-term goal of the project is to develop graduate education programs based on these manuals that will lead graduates to earn the internationally-recognized title of European Building Expert (EurBE). This initiative is expected to help meet the growing demand for qualified managers in the sector and increase employment opportunities across Europe.
