Gebze Technical University (GTU) hosts an important training session titled "Quality Assurance System in Higher Education: Process Management" at the Congress and Cultural Center on April 24, 2025. The event, with Prof. Ali Sınağ, the Vice-Rector of Istanbul Aydın University, as the speaker, highlights GTU's commitment to quality processes.
The training, attended by GTU's Vice-Rectors Prof. E. Damla Arısan and Prof. Mahmut Durmuş, members of the GTU Quality Committee, quality officers from academic and administrative divisions, and students, was organized by the Institutional Development and Quality Coordination Office.
After the opening speech by Coordinator Şule Özbek, Vice-Rector Prof. E. Damla Arısan emphasized the vital importance of quality processes for GTU, stressing that these processes need to be embraced by all university staff, with everyone's contribution being critical. Prof. Arısan expressed gratitude to Prof. Ali Sınağ, an experienced evaluator who has made significant contributions to the YÖKAK (Turkish Higher Education Quality Council) processes, for his valuable contributions.
In his presentation, Prof. Ali Sınağ addressed various topics, including the general status of universities in Türkiye, the changing structure of higher education, academic efficiency, process management (EFQM, ISO9001, PDCA), quality management models, solutions to issues faced in higher education, and institutional governance models. He also provided evaluations regarding areas at GTU that are open to development within the YÖKAK framework.
Prof. Sınağ emphasized the importance of internalizing and spreading the culture of quality within the university. He stressed the need to raise awareness about YÖKAK processes, ensure that managers have quality assurance awareness, and actively participate in improvement activities. He highlighted that universities' missions, visions, and policies must be quality-focused, the ownership of quality processes must be clearly defined, and data must be traceable and transparent.
Prof. Sınağ pointed out the critical importance of self-assessment by institutions under YÖKAK, the establishment of an integrated information management system, defining key performance indicators in accordance with policies, tracking all process outputs and reflecting them on the field, and evaluating and improving these through monitoring boards. He also stressed the necessity of obtaining feedback from both internal and external stakeholders during curriculum development processes, commercializing research results and patents, and focusing on social contribution and sustainability concepts. Prof. Sınağ shared his evaluations and suggestions regarding the results report of the Institutional Accreditation Program (IAP) visit conducted by the Turkish Higher Education Quality Council (YÖKAK) at GTU. |
