The project titled “Machine Learning-Supported Metaheuristic and Branch-and-Price Applications for Unrelated Parallel Machine Scheduling and Activity Assignment Problems in Health Tourism” by Asst. Prof. Burak Paç, a faculty member at Gebze Technical University's (GTU) Department of Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, is awarded support under the 3501 Career Development Program of the Scientific and Technological Research Institution of Türkiye's (TÜBİTAK) Directorate for Research Support Programs.

The project aims to provide innovative solutions for complex problems such as production scheduling and health tourism planning by combining machine learning techniques with mathematical optimization algorithms. It seeks to develop machine learning-supported algorithms that significantly reduce solution times compared to traditional methods, optimize machine scheduling processes in factories to enhance production efficiency, and improve the planning of tourist activities in the health tourism sector to boost industry revenues.

The purpose of the 3501 Career Development Program is to encourage the research of newly-graduated PhD holders by providing project-based support. By supporting the work of young researchers who will lead academic progress in the 21st century, the program aims to help them continue their careers as researchers and educators in the best possible way, while also contributing to the advancement of scientific standards and enhancing the role of science in national development.
